Silkscreen, from a set of six prints published by Jackson Pollock and Sanford McCoy (CR1091) (After painting Number 7, CR324)
”Your other Pollock is a silkscreen print (not a lithograph) printed in 1951. It is a reproduction of a much larger painting of the same year, No. 7 1951 in the collection of Reginald Isaacs of Cambridge, Mass. Since these were printed in an edition of 25, the numbers 25/16 means you have the 16th print in that series of 25. The 51 is no doubt the date and the W I cannot explain, unless it could be an obscure M -- in which case it might be the initial of Sanford McCoy, who was Jackson’s brother and helped him with the printing.”
Francis O’Conner, Editior of The Jackson Pollock Catalogue Raisonné, from a September 9, 1975 letter to Guild Hall’s Registrar.
