The painting was signed on the front by de Kooning on 3 April 87, at the request of the curator (Helen Harrison). This signature therefore does not appear in photographs of the work taken prior to its acquisition by Guild Hall.
In the opinion of Elaine de Kooning, this is a figure of a woman.
