Description
F Adele McGinnis Herter was primarily devoted to portraiture, although she became best known for her delicate floral still life painting. The daughter of a New York banker, she grew up with affluence and upper-class privileges. She studied art in Paris at the Academie Julian with teachers Adolphe Bouguereau, Gustave Courtois and Tony Robert-Fleury. In Paris she met New Yorker, Albert Herter, and they married in New York in 1893. As a working couple and separately, they achieved much prominence as painters and wall-decorating muralists.
